Difference Between Recruitment and Staffing

Two of the essential functions of a human resource department are recruitment and staffing. That is because when the right people have been employed in the right positions and the correct numbers, there are higher possibilities of achieving organizational success. Though the two terms are often reflected to mean the same, they differ in words of their functions.

The difference between recruitment and staffing is essential to understand. Recruitment refers to the process where potential applicants are searched for and then inspired to apply for an actual vacancy. Staffing means the process of employing and developing the workforce of an organization.


Key Differences between Recruiting and Staffing

Definition:- Recruitment is a process of looking for potential employees and inspiring them to apply for the open position while staffing is a process of employment, development, acquisition, and retention of people in an organization.

  1. Scope:- Recruitment is not as comprehensive as staffing. Recruitment involves a single step, while staffing consists of a series of essential steps in recruitment being one of them.

  2. Function:- Recruitment is a part of staffing, while staffing is a significant function of management.

  3. Duration:- Recruitment is a short term process while staffing is a long term and constant process.

  4. Stage of occurrence:- Recruitment occurs in the early stages of employment while staffing occurs in all stages despite levels in an organization.

Conclusion:-

The primary assets for any organization are its qualified, skilled, and dedicated employees. Such employees play a significant part in the efficiency and success of any organization. Hence, it is essential to consistently incorporate new and talented employees within the organization, as well as retain the existing hardworking employees. They also assure that the right people are given the best jobs in the organization, at the right time, and in the correct numbers. When this class of system is in place in an organization, it becomes desirable for the organization to attain its goals and achieve success and development.
